Coach Jamie Carayiannis

Jamie and wife Sharon have lived in the Gainesville/Haymarket area since 1993. They have three children, daughter 11, son 9, and son 7 who participate in a variety of sports and activities such as baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, swimming, horseback ridding, and of course wrestling. Jamie and Sharon have been involved in many aspects of the Gainesville/Haymarket community, including youth sports programs for years. Jamie has been an educator and high school coach for twenty-eight years. He has taught at every level of education, elementary, middle and high school and is presently a high school Assistant Principal. He has been a successful high school coach in wrestling, football, track and baseball. As his children became of age, he began getting more involved with coaching and supporting youth sports programs in the Gainesville/Haymarket community. Jamie recognized a need for a youth wrestling program in the Gainesville/Haymarket area, so he started the Haymarket Hurricane Wrestling Program.

Jamie has four goals for each child that wants a wrestling experience:

  1. For each wrestler to grasp an understanding of the sport of wrestling.
  2. For each wrestler to line up in a proper stance, perform wrestling moves using proper technique and fundamentals.
  3. For each wrestler to understand and recognize Good Sportsmanship in competitive situations through success and failure.
  4. For each wrestler to reach their full potential by developing them to advance to the next level in the sport, weather it be as a youth club Federation or Beltway wrestler, or as a middle school, high school or collegiate wrestler.

Coach Bryan Burns

Bryan and his wife Suzi have 3 children: Whitney 13, Kellie Sue 10, and Jackson 8. Jackson is a returning member of the Haymarket Hurricanes. Coach Burns is looking forward to helping everyone on the team reach their full potential.

2008-2009 Support

We will need some assistance with practice and matches. Parents and volunteers who embrace the Hurricane philosophy are welcome to be a part of the Hurricane Wrestling Team. Without your help, we can not accomplish what is needed for your child to gain the full benefit of participating. It does not matter if you have any experience in wrestling or coaching. There is no better way to bond with your child than to be part of their athletic experiences. This experience is all about what you make of it between you and your child. Parents will be required to work as a score keeper or timer during weekend tournaments.

Introduction

Thank you for showing an interest in the Gainesville/Haymarket Youth Wrestling Program, “The Haymarket Hurricanes.”

The Haymarket Hurricanes is a youth program for beginners as well as for experienced wrestlers ages 5-13 in the Gainesville/Haymarket area. The program is part of the Northern Virginia Wrestling Federation, which includes thirty two teams from all over Northern Virginia, including Prince William, Fairfax, Loudon, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Fauquier, Culpepper and Orange Counties.

The 2008-09 season will be the second year for the Hurricane Program. The 2007-08 season proved to be a successful season for the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes had an unprecedented forty plus wrestlers enrolled in the first year program. Not only did the Hurricanes have high numbers for a first year program, but they knew what to do when the stepped on the mat. The Haymarket Hurricanes finished the season with 5-Regional Champions, 7-Regional Runner Ups and 5-Third Place Regional Finishers.

The Haymarket Hurricane Wrestling Program has outstanding coaches working with our wrestlers. The Hurricane coaching staff consists of highly qualified former collegiate and high school wrestlers as well as experienced high school and youth club coaching. Our coaches are committed and dedicated to our wrestlers and they are looking forward to working with the kids, helping them develop as wrestlers as well as good citizens.
