Coach Jamie Carayiannis

Jamie and wife Sharon have lived in the Gainesville/Haymarket area since 1993. They have three children, daughter 11, son 9, and son 7 who participate in a variety of sports and activities such as baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, swimming, horseback ridding, and of course wrestling. Jamie and Sharon have been involved in many aspects of the Gainesville/Haymarket community, including youth sports programs for years. Jamie has been an educator and high school coach for twenty-eight years. He has taught at every level of education, elementary, middle and high school and is presently a high school Assistant Principal. He has been a successful high school coach in wrestling, football, track and baseball. As his children became of age, he began getting more involved with coaching and supporting youth sports programs in the Gainesville/Haymarket community. Jamie recognized a need for a youth wrestling program in the Gainesville/Haymarket area, so he started the Haymarket Hurricane Wrestling Program.

Jamie has four goals for each child that wants a wrestling experience:

  1. For each wrestler to grasp an understanding of the sport of wrestling.
  2. For each wrestler to line up in a proper stance, perform wrestling moves using proper technique and fundamentals.
  3. For each wrestler to understand and recognize Good Sportsmanship in competitive situations through success and failure.
  4. For each wrestler to reach their full potential by developing them to advance to the next level in the sport, weather it be as a youth club Federation or Beltway wrestler, or as a middle school, high school or collegiate wrestler.
